The People That Need Our Help

In an effort to put a total and complete end to widow hardhips, The Subadra Foundation had identified countless widows in dire need of support and any sort of help. In India, the life expectancy is just 66 years; it is vital that the elderly who are extremely prone to adverse health conditions and unable to sustain themselves receive adequate help. We have recognized and seen the difficulties the elderly face, thus, the widows we serve are all above 50 years of age.

Here are the shocking statistics about the difficulties the people we serve face:

  • Of the widows we serve, 90% have no stable source of income, and those that do earn less than a dollar a day, living on a mere $15 a month
  • An overwhelming 85% don't have any sort of occupation, but rather spend their day on the streets begging for food or money
  • Only 15% are capable of producing their own food, which are always small portions that rarely meet the daily 2400 Kcal guideline set forth by the Indian National Institute of Nutrition
  • An incredibly large portion, 70% of the widows we serve are considered senior citizens by the Indian Ministry of Social justice and Empowerment
  • All of the widows we have identified, 100%, do not have any emotional or financial support from their relatives, rather they are deemed useless and ignored and abused by their relatives and children
  • Once again, 100% of the widows we've identified live under the Indian Poverty Line
